The Il Bosco Estate is situated in the Oltrepò Pavese, a zone that has always represented, for Italy, the area of choice of the legendary Pinot Nero variety. Since 1987 the Estate has been the property of the Zonin family, which has invested primarily in the main grape varieties of the Oltrepò such as Bonarda and Pinot Nero. The latter forms the base for the famous Metodo Classico sparkling wines that mature in the Estate’s underground cellars.

Unmatchable scenery, historical remains that date back to the Middle Ages, villas and castles of exceptional beauty and hillsides adorned with vineyards: it is in the midst of such surroundings – in the heart of Chianti Classico – that we find Castello d’Albola, built in the 15th century by the Acciaioli and transformed during the Renaissance into a splendid country estate. The property of the Zonin family since 1979, Castello d’Albola, which stretches out over an area of 850 hectares of which 157 are vineyards, once belonged to Tuscany’s most aristocratic families: the Acciaioli, the Samminiati, the Pazzi and the Ginori Conti. The castle’s historic underground cellars, the (still intact) mediaeval hamlet and the new winery – an authentic gem of avant garde architecture – form an unforgettable destination for wine-loving tourists.

If it is true to say that the etymology of the place-name Salento conjures up forceful images like those of the sun, salt and soil, the Masseria Altemura project has succeeded in highlighting these elements, summoning up the essence of this area so as to express its natural qualities to the full. The estate, which has belonged to the Zonin family since 2000, lies in the heart of the Salento Peninsula, halfway between the Seas that lap against Puglia’s shores, the Ionian and the Adriatic, and covers around 300 hectares, of which 150 are planted with vines. This favourable geographical position, characterized by pleasant sea breezes and very intense sunlight, is yet another positive condition for the cultivation of vines.

There is a passion that knows no borders that crosses oceans and continents and unites hemispheres. This dedication to excellence, rooted in seven generations of winemaking tradition, is what led the Zonin family from the vineyards of Italy to search for the perfect terroir in which to further develop their dream.
They began their journey, faithful to their vision of creating connections between people and places through wine.
Their voyage was driven by a desire to promote the biodiversity and cultural riches of outstanding world wine regions, and they found the ideal place to fulfil this commitment in Chile, complementing two hundred years of Italian craftsmanship with the kaleidoscope of terroirs and microclimates that make up this wonderful country.
Here, the Zonin family could create wines capable of merging two identities: Italian winemaking tradition and Chilean terroir, like two souls connected by a single purpose – creating perfect harmony.
The passion, the competence and the vision that – generation after generation – a family has displayed since 1821 have made the Zonin brand a model for wine production in the Veneto, Italy and Europe. Today Zonin is a unique company with the mission of exporting the culture of Italian wine around the world.
